MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

As we approach the winter break, I want to thank all of our families and friends who support Chadds Ford and help to make our school such a positive place to come to each day.  We are truly fortunate to have an opportunity to serve such a tremendous community.  Our volunteers are just phenomenal ...from serving on the PTO to facilitating school events...from assisting in our library to running our school store...from maintaining our planting beds...to helping in our classrooms...the list goes on and on.  As we enter the new year, please consider getting involved in any way that you can.  Your presence in the school is a great support for us and makes such an impact on your child.  Speaking of community service, this past Saturday, Miss Yackel and I, along with six 5th grade students volunteered to support the Kennett Area Community Services organization.  As part of our CFE "Give the Gift of Warmth" collection, YOUR donations went directly into the hands of folks in need.  Thank you for your donations and generosity!  It is wonderful to see our students serving their community.

From all of us at CFES...we wish you a wonderful winter break!  As the students like to say, "see you next year"!

Mr. Shawn Dutkiewicz

CFES Principal

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our school Robotics Club - the Master MindStorms! Lead by CFE parents' Vidya Janakiraman and Wendy Bomberger and mentored by UHS Freshman (and CFE Alumni) Mira Zutshi, the Master Mindstorms won the Core Values Inspiration Award at the FLL Tournament held at Patton Middle School this past Saturday. This award celebrates a team that is empowered by their FIRST LEGO League experience and displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit.  HUGE congrats to the team on their first tournament, award, and tremendous efforts!   Check out pictures on our Facebook page.  We plan to expand the Robotics team to all those who are interested.  We are planning to have an information night sometime this spring.  Keep your eyes out for a date in the new year!

Chadds Ford had a very special visitor today!  Following the recent signing of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Congressman Patrick Meehan visited CFE to meet with teachers and staff this morning.  The Congressman discussed the positive benefits of the new act, more notably a shift in control from the federal level to the state/local level.  The Congressman fielded questions and comments from CFE teachers, toured our building, and even met with some students.

Our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is coming up...January 18th!  This is a great opportunity to teach your child the experience and value of service to our community.  Huge thanks to Rebecca Haley and our PTO for organizing this year's event.  The flyer (attached) explains the details regarding our collection process, service day,  and where the donations will be delivered.  Your time and donations are greatly appreciated!

Friendly Reminder regarding Service: Many PTO positions remain open for next school year.  Our Fall Festival and Art Show for example will both have leadership vacancies following this school year. Organizing and facilitating a major PTO event may seem like a great challenge.  Often parent volunteers who oversee these events work collaboratively as a team, so tasks are distributed and the event is supported on many levels.   Please consider getting involved in some of the great traditions here at CFE!  Without parent involvement and volunteers, we wouldn't be the school that we are today.  If you are interested in supporting and serving on the PTO, please e-mail Heather Marshall and Vivian Lee, PTO Co-Presidents with your interests.

As always, thank you for all that you do to support us here at CFES!

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

As you may have seen on our Facebook page, we recently recognized 50 students for demonstrating "Service" at Chadds Ford.  Service to the school can come in many shapes and sizes.  Many of our students are very eager to help out wherever they can!  They often demonstrate service by volunteering to help their teachers and peers and we want to recognize that as often as we can.  Service also comes from our fabulous PTO and parent volunteers who support us on a weekly basis.  Parents volunteer to run our school store, assist operations in our library, read to students, as well as help out in classrooms.  Without parent volunteers, we simply could not provide the student experience that we do at CFE.

Our PTO has noticed that many of our long-time volunteers will soon be graduating...along with their children...to the middle school.  We are hopeful that more parents will see an opportunity to work with others to support CFE and enable our wonderful traditions and annual events to continue on.

Many PTO positions remain open for next school year.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

We hope that everyone enjoyed a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday.  Its hard to believe we are just a few weeks away from our Winter Break and the start of 2016!

This week at CFE we are celebrating Healthy Body Week!  Each day this week on CFE-TV, we have a special health-themed video prepared by our staff members to encourage healthy eating and exercise.  Nurse Mrs. Hansen treated everyone to a healthy smoothie treat at lunch today and there will have another later this week.  Our morning announcements are streamed live on our Youtube channel...so check our the videos and help encourage your child to support healthy habits of mind and body!

Finally, this Thursday the Chinese Acrobats are visiting CFE for a morning assembly. Check out our Facebook page for pictures at the week's end.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

This is a very busy week at CFES!  Between our Book Fair, Donut Days, and a full day visit from author/illustrator, Lee Harper, our days should fly by!  We may still have some Lee Harper books available to be autographed on Friday.  If you are interested, please e-mail our Office Manager, Carolyn Barr at carolynbarr@ucfsd.net for information.

The BOOK FAIR IS OPEN!  Huge thanks to Maria Tayoun, Denise Blango, and all of our parent volunteers for organizing and facilitating this annual event.  Tomorrow, Tues. November 17th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm, the Book Fair will be open for shopping.  We are still in need of volunteers.  If you are available to help, please sign up here: www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0e4aadab22a20-volunteer

This coming Thursday and Friday morning, CFE will be hosting Donut Days!  Donut Days are a great CFE tradition that offers our students an opportunity to enjoy a light breakfast in our cafeteria and time to shop in our Book Fair with a family member.  If you have not returned your RSVP and plan to attend...please print and send in the attached flyer so we can plan accordingly.  HUGE Thanks to the PTO for organizing and supporting this annual event!

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled next week.  We will operate on a 1/2 day schedule Monday - Wednesday, November 23rd-25th.   Hopefully you have scheduled your conference with your child's teacher.  Although report cards will not be issued until the beginning of December, you will have a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress and identify areas of strength and areas for growth.

Finally, last week I sent out a Google Form to elicit feedback regarding the implementation of our Makerspace.  Thank you for taking the time to add your ideas and feedback.  If you are unsure what a Makerspace is...here is a very brief video that describes the generalities of the space: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLEJLOB6fDw.  The beauty of a Makerspace is that there is no blueprint for what it should include.  We have the freedom to build it to suit our goals and needs.  If you Google "Makerspace", you will find articles, videos, pictures, blogs, etc. that can help to inform you of the direction of this endeavor.  Your time and ideas are greatly appreciated!

As always, thank you for all that you do to support us here at CFES!

SCHOOL STORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Parents of 3rd through 5th graders may signup to run the school store every other week throughout the school year.  3rd grade shops Tuesdays, 4th on Wednesdays and 5th on Thursdays.  Volunteers should arrive at CFES around 8:20 to setup and will be done by 9:05. Check in at the office on arrival and Jeanine will give you a pouch which contains very detailed instructions about how to operate the store.  Even someone who has never run the store could follow those instructions and be just fine!  Still, ideally we would have fairly regular volunteers, so think about signing up for several slots throughout the school year.
