CHARGER ENEWS - FRIDAY, JUNE 12, 2015

CHARGER eNEWS

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

WHAT A YEAR!  I cannot believe that we have reached the end of our 2014-2015 school year!

I want to thank all of our families for their tremendous support this year!  Being new to CFE, I really appreciate all of the extra time and feedback that people have afforded me.   People have asked me to describe my perspective of my first year here and I have to say that it has been everything that I had hoped for...and then some!  I learned a great deal this year and you will be hearing about some exciting new things coming our way next year and beyond.  Our staff is finalizing our school vision that has taken the entire year to work on.  The process has included parents, past and present students, and all of our staff.  We are close to a vision that will relate our traditions, history, and aspirations for now and the future.   We are also very close to unveiling a new logo for our school.  The new logo was designed by Vivian Lee, one of our CFE parents, and it communicates the essential elements of our storied school.  I look forward to sharing these foundational pieces in the coming weeks.

Until then, thank you once again for a great year!  It is my hope that you enjoy a relaxing and peaceful summer!

All the best!

MESSAGE FROM THE PTO

It is hard to believe that this will be our last enews of the year.  What a wonderful school year at CFE that would not have been possible without the help we received from our many parent volunteers.  Whether you signed up to be a home room parent, helped with Fall Festival, Art Show, Talent Show, Donut Days, MLK day of service, Mayfair, Fifth grade leave behind project and breakfast, Hospitality, Family Fun Night, put out a fabulous yearbook, helped run our Spirit Wear sale, Book Fair, School Store, Art in Action or Read A Thon (JUST TO NAME A FEW) – We could not have done it without you.  THANK YOU.  The PTO is a great way to give back to the students and school and the board sincerely thanks you for all of your hard work and dedication.

And on that note – we still have to fill some CFE PTO COMMITTEE CHAIRS FOR 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR!!!

CHARGER ENEWS - JUNE 3, 2015

CHARGER eNEWS

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

It's JUNE!  It's unbelievable how fast this year has gone!

As we put a nice big bow on the 2014-2015 school year, I'd like to remind you of the following upcoming events:

  • Field Day: June 4th (rain date of June 5th) - Parents can volunteer to assist the events (volunteer sign up sheet: https://docs.google.com/…/15dgG5Pq3C7zkR_4TTR8Y2Ah…/viewform)
  • Citizenship Ceremony: June 8th - Parents of winners of the citizenship award are invited and will get a call from the classroom teacher to attend. Perfect attendance is also rewarded at this event.
  • 5th grade Wax Museum: June 11th from 2:15-3:00 pm and June 12th from 11:15-12:00 pm.
  • Classroom end-of-year celebrations (dates/times) will be communicated by individual teachers.
  • Last day of School is June 15th: Dismissal will be at 12:10 pm

Morning car rider drop off friendly reminder: Please allow your child to exit your vehicle only when you have reached the entrance area to the school.  Students have been witnessed exiting vehicles and approaching the school from several other parking areas and this creates an unsafe problem for student arrival.

Finally, this year, CFE will be collecting any unwanted used/unused school supplies at the end of the school year. We will be donating all collected items to "Treasures for Teachers" which benefits under-supplied schools in the Philadelphia region. If you would like your child to donate his/her supplies, there will be bins in the lobby area.

As always, thank you for your support!

IMPORTANT!! NEW BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS HAVING CONTACT WITH CHILDREN

The state legislature has passed Act 153 of 2014 and requires all volunteers that will have contact with children to obtain the following clearances:

1. Report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania Sate Police (PSP) ; and

2. Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services/(Child Abuse).

All new volunteers must obtain these clearances now.  All current volunteers whose clearances are more than 36 months old must obtain new clearances now. All current volunteers whose clearances are less than 36 months old must obtain new clearances by July 1, 2016.

The Child Abuse, and PSP clearances can be applied and paid for electronically. All necessary instructions and links to apply for these clearances can be found at: http://www.dhs.state.pa.us/findaform/childabusehistoryclearanceforms/index.htm

So, most if not all parent volunteers will need new clearances.  If you plan to a homeroom parent, field trip chaperone or help in any way with CFE students, you will need to obtain these clearances.  If you have any questions, please contact Frances Galvin @ fmgscd@gmail.com.

Please see the attached letter for more information.

CFE FIELD DAY

Attention Chargers!

Field Day is this Thursday (June 4th) and we are in need of your help! We need parents to set up, run games, and clean up.

Kindergarten through 2nd grade will participate in the morning session. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will participate in the afternoon. If you are able to volunteer, please click on the Parent Volunteer Form link below by May 25th. Thanks for helping us make this a great event!

https://docs.google.com/…/15dgG5Pq3C7zkR_4TTR8Y2Ah…/viewform

ATTENTION 5th GRADE PARENTS – SCHOOL STORE

Our first 5th Grade Locker Sale was a success!  If you missed out or forgot to buy something– don't worry!!  We will hold another sale on Thursday, June 11th!  See the attached for more information.

ROBOTICS COMPETITION INFORMATION FOR THE 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR

We know many parents and students who wanted to learn more about FIRST Robotics Competitions were not able to attend our informational night because it was the same night at CFE's open house. There was no perfect night to hold the session because of the myriad of activities going on in May. If you are interested in learning more about how your Kindergarten through 5th grader can participate in FIRST Robotics Competitions during the 2015-16 school year, please review the pdf presentation from that evening (attachment to enews). Please also click on and review the hyperlinks in the presentation, which contain additional information. The most important information is that we need parent volunteers as coaches/mentors in order for teams to form.  No prior technical knowledge is needed -- just a desire to help our kids in this wonderful endeavor!

If you have further questions, or would like to sign up for a team, please contact Luci McClure luci.mcclure@gmail.com or John Nolen jnolen@ucfsd.net.

See the attached for more information.
