MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Parents!

I want to start by congratulating all of our 5th grade participants in last week's Oldies Dance.  It takes tremendous courage to perform on stage in front of an audience and our students did an amazing job!  Huge thanks to all of the families who helped prepare the students and to Mrs. Doyer who facilitated the school event and the event at HES.

March is a busy month!  We have our Family Fun Night coming up this Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Of course the following Friday and Saturday is our 67th Annual Art Show and Sale.  The art show is our greatest fundraiser of the year and generates the vast majority of the PTO operational budget.  Your help is great needed and greatly appreciated!  Please consider getting involved in any capacity through the sign-up genius link below.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED -

SIGN UP HERE - http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0844a5ac2ea7f58-20162

Friendly reminder:  Last week the message below was sent by e-mail to all CFE families.

For spring conferences, CFES is piloting an online parent/teacher conference sign-up system called PTCfast.  Many of our neighboring school districts are utilizing this service to provide a more efficient means of scheduling conferences. Please follow the directions below to sign up for a conference with your child's teacher.  Once you have registered on PTCfast.com using the link below, you will receive an email that will grant you access to the conference schedules of the teachers you request.

If you have multiple children at CFE, you will be able to view the conference schedules for all staff that you choose.  The service will allow you to align times that are most convenient for you.   Conference times are meant for homeroom  teachers only.  However, if you are interested in meeting with a specialist (learning support, reading support, IST, or AT), please choose the same time on their schedule as you did for your child's classroom teacher and they will join the conference.  If the same time is not available, feel free to choose another time to meet with the specialist or email them if necessary.

Spring Conference Information:

    •    When: Week of March 14th; Scheduled dates: March 16th and 17th 2016

    •    Where: CFES Homerooms

    •    Registration Deadline: March 4th

    •    Online Change Deadline: March 9th

To choose a conference time, enter this link into your internet browser:

https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Chadds_Ford_Elementary_School

Once you select your child's teacher, the site will guide through a registration process.  After the initial sign-up, you will receive confirmation emails and reminders from PTCfast regarding your conference time.  If you do not see the email, please check your junk/trash/spam folders.  Upon confirmation, you will be able to resume the selection process.

    •    If you need to schedule a phone conference, please choose a conference time and type "phone" after your child's last name (ex: Last Name: Smith/Phone)

    •    If you cannot find a time that works for you within the teacher's conference schedule or do not have access to the internet, please contact the teacher directly to schedule a time.

Hopefully this process will prove to be a more efficient means of scheduling conferences between the home and school. If you have any questions regarding the process, please contact our main office at 610.388.1112 x3700.  Thank you!

As always, thank you for your support!

MESSAGES FROM THE PTO

To our wonderful Chadds Ford Elementary Community,

We are in the final days of planning this year's premier fundraising event at CFE.  The 67th Annual Art Show and Sale will take place on March 11th and 12th.  A very sincere thank you to all parents and staff who have kindly volunteered to help out at the event.  If you have not done so, please take a look at the Sign Up Genius and see if there is a shift you would like to select.  Help is needed on Thursday 3/10, Friday 3/11 and Saturday 3/12.  Most shifts are just 2 hours long, so the time commitment is very manageable.  Please keep in mind that nearly 70 professional artists will be selling their art work to benefit our school and hundreds and hundreds of people from our community and beyond will walk through the doors of CFE to browse the beautiful artwork, make purchases and meet the artists.

Before the show kicks off we would like to thank the following volunteers for the hard work they have done over the past few months:

Jackie Hochman has been working tirelessly with local restaurants and businesses to secure food donations.  Jackie is the nicest person in town and has great connections to many local businesses and restaurants, it's a tough job but Jackie tackles it like a pro. All of the delicious food is served on Friday night and our customers love it!

Betty Kucharczuk is our super organized volunteer coordinator.  Betty created the Sign Up Genius for the CFE community and has been working with the staff at UHS to secure an army of high school volunteers who will be on hand throughout the event.  Betty leaves no stone unturned, we know we will be adequately staffed.

Kathleen Vasko, PR Woman Extraordinaire, is the creative force behind this years publicity campaign.  Kathleen has been keeping the Facebook page updated and lively.  Have you liked our page yet??  She also worked on a great direct mailer that went to hundreds upon hundreds of mailboxes in our area.

Vivian Lee is working around the clock to get all of the Graphic Design situated for the posters and programs.  Vivian is in contact with all of the artists to make sure that we have all of their information accurate so that they are properly represented in the program.  Vivian's artistic eye and attention to detail is unmatched.

Renee Carrol is the machine behind our advertising.  Renee has now surpassed her own record setting advertising revenue from last year.  Renee has come up with creative ideas to boost our advertising revenue and her hard work has paid off, a job well done!

Frances Dolce has revived her role as our Raffle Coordinator and she didn't miss a beat in her small hiatus.  This year's raffle is top notch, many attention grabbing items are available.  Please take a look at the display case this week in the lobby, it will be filled with beautiful and unique items.  Frances will be sending out a sheet this week in backpack express detailing all of the raffle items, please take a look and buy your tickets!

A special thanks to Jackie, Betty, Kathleen, Vivian, Renee and Frances.  We could never do it without you.  Lastly, a special thanks "in advance" for those of you who have signed up or will sign up in the coming days.  All of the effort is so greatly appreciated.

Lisa, Kara and Maggie

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Parents!

I write to you today with some important reminders regarding attendance and reporting absences.   By and large we have very strong attendance at CFE and we thank you for your tremendous support.  At times, we are challenged with the task of receiving phone calls and notes when a student is not at school.  Our attendance regulations are listed below.  Please review them carefully and once again, thank you for your support!

  • Pennsylvania school laws permit absence from school for the following reasons: p ersonal illness, quarantine, death in the family, and exceptional urgent reasons  that directly contribute to the welfare of the child.  Aside from approved family/educational trips, a ll other absences are considered unexcused.
  • When a child is absent, a responsible adult should call the school attendance line (610.388.1112 option #4) and notify the office before 8:55 AM.  Each day, the schoolmessenger system will call parents of absent children w ho have not left a message.
  • Every absence must also have a written statement or excuse, signed by the parent or guardian, as required by law.  If the excuse has not been turned in by the third day, the absence is considered unexcused and/or unlawful.

Most attendance issues are completely avoided if they are appropriately reported.  Please be aware, if a student accrues a significant amount of absences or tardies, or has unreported absences (unexcused/unlawful), we are obligated to begin a truancy elimination process.   The truancy elimination process can include the following: truancy letters to the parents, parent meetings with our support team, truancy court referrals to the magisterial district justice, and referrals to Child, Youth, and Family Services.

Once again, thank you for your support!

Best regards,

Shawn Dutkiewicz, CFE Principal

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

CFES HAS TALENT! I want to congratulate Maria Tayoun and Denise Blango on a tremendous job facilitating this year's Talent Show!  Friday night was a real blast and our student performers did an amazing job!

If you haven't heard, CFE was awarded two grants last week from the Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Foundation!  The UCFEF board surprised Mr. Hirt with a check for nearly $3,800!  Mr. Hirt's grant will help to purchase Lego Robotics for our Makerspace and also provide us with significant funds to provide professional development and curriculum writing for our staff this summer.  Mrs. Roberts received a $1,500 grant to put toward our implementation of a Collaboration Cafe in our 5th grade hallway.  We are hopeful that the remainder of that grant will be fulfilled through a CFE PTO grant or corporate grant if necessary.

Just a reminder that all CFE teachers maintain a webpage for their classroom.  This is an excellent resource for you to access homework, upcoming events, reminders, and curriculum links.  To find your child's teacher, go to our main website and "teacher websites" is listed under the tab Parent Resources.  Here is a direct link: http://cfes.ucfsd.org/teacher-websites.html.

Finally...attention 5th grade parents! If you have a daughter in 5th through 10th grade, please take notice of this great opportunity!  See attached flyer for details.

Have a great week and as always, thank you for your support!

Mr. Shawn Dutkiewicz

CFES Principal

The 67th ANNUAL ART SHOW AND SALE NEEDS YOUR HELP

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED -

SIGN UP HERE - http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0844a5ac2ea7f58-20162

67 years ago, the Wyeth family ran the first art show at Chadds Ford Elementary.  Since then, the show has flourished and today provides a beautiful opportunity for our community to come together.  The show also supplies 2/3 or more of our annual PTO budget.  As you know, the PTO funds many parts of the school experience for every single CFE student, including assemblies, classroom needs, technology advancement, family fun nights, etc.  In addition, our KIND fund makes sure no child misses a field trip, book fair, or other school-related experiences as a result of income restrictions.

The show requires many hands so please sign up for one or more shifts.  We know all families juggle many competing interests, but it benefits all our children, so please find a time to help.

**We especially need two or more people to step up now to chair the show next year so you can learn from this year's chairs**

Warmest regards,

Maggie Niemkiewicz, Kara Hyman, and Lisa Albany

CHARGER eNEWS

February 1, 2016

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

We are embarking on an exciting week at CFES!  As most of you know, Friday is our annual Talent Show!  CFE certainly has talent and we are all looking forward to a great show 7:00 pm Friday evening in our gymnasium!  Huge thanks to Maria Tayoun and Denise Blango for coordinating and facilitating the event!

This coming Saturday is the UCFSD Ed Foundation Golden Gala, held at The Chadds Ford Gables.  The Gala is a great event to meet people around the district while supporting an organization that directly impacts your children! The Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Foundation is a non-profit 5013-c charitable organization that supports the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District.  The mission of the UCFEF is to supplement funding for innovative education programs and projects in our schools that support performing and applied arts, health and life skills, the environment, community partnerships, science and technology.   Last year, the Ed Foundation supported the purchase of our 3D-Printer!  This year, CFE submitted two grant requests to supplement our new Makerspace as well as build a collaborative work space in our 5th grade wing.  We will find out this week if our grants were approved!

If you are interested in attending or learning more about the UCFEF, here is a link to their webpage: http://www.ucfedfoundation.org/#!golden-gala/ogfab

More community news to share...please see attached flyer for information regarding the 74th  Running of the Brandywine Hills Point-to-Point to be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016.  The proceeds of this event support the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance, which offers programs to the children in our school district.

Finally, you may not be aware, but all CFE teachers maintain a webpage for their classroom.

Have a great week and as always, thank you for your support!

Mr. Shawn Dutkiewicz

CFES Principal

MESSAGES FROM THE PTO

PTO MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY - FEBRUARY 3 - 9:15 AM

The 67th ANNUAL ART SHOW AND SALE NEEDS YOUR HELP

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - SIGN UP HERE - http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0844a5ac2ea7f58-20162

Hello Chadds Ford Families!

Art in Action Help Needed!

Looking to get more involved at CFES in 2016?

Art in Action is a great way to interact with your student and his/her classmates without a big time commitment! Art in Action is a district-wide program which gives students the opportunity to look at famous works of art with a specific theme and gain a greater understanding of art through time.

Parents lead this discussion - but in most classes the students do most of the talking! We are looking for parents who are willing to come to one training session (about an hour) and then lead a discussion during an Art Class (your student's class or any that best fit your schedule). NO ART KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED!

If you are interested please email Kim Regan (volgirl2291@comcast.net) and more details will be provided. Thanks for your support!
