MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

HUGE THANKS to our PTO and parent volunteers for spoiling us rotten as part of last week's Teacher Appreciation Week! Our PTO provided a delicious Mexican feast and purchased a beautiful industrial grade Keurig for our faculty room.  In case you were wondering, teachers drink a lot of coffee! :)  HUGE THANKS everyone!

We are looking forward to a great Open House this Thursday evening at Chadds Ford!  Our school will be open for visitations from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Please be sure to check out our Multicultural Fair in the gym and the Makerspace Fair in the Innovation Lab (across from the gym).  Finally, feel free to roam the halls and take in all of the wonderful art work.  CFE Art teacher, Mrs. Smith has made it easy to find your child's artwork by organizing everything by homeroom class.  I want to thank all of the parents who have supported this year's multicultural fair.  A lot of great work has gone into decorating classrooms, assembling research and presentations, and preparing for Thursday's fair.  THANK YOU so much for supporting this new initiative!

Calling all parents who are mechanically inclined and interested in supporting robotics at CFE!  Please see informational night details below!

UCF FIRST Robotics Information Night - May 11

The District's STEM initiative includes supporting STEM related club activities and the FIRST Robotics club has been growing and gaining a lot of recognition (and awards!).  FIRST Robotics will be holding an informational meeting.

Wednesday May 11th, 6:30-8:00pm

Hillendale Elementary School, LGI

Come find out about FIRST Robotics!  This event is hosted by the Flaming Phoenix Robotics Team from Unionville High School. Programs for K-12 will be discussed in preparation for the next year's season.

We need your old Jeans!  I just want to make you aware of a tremendous service project that our Girls on the Run  Team is doing. Our GOTR team is participating in a community service project organized by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine and Sole Hope of Uganda . During  their practice on May 25th,  the girls will be cutting out denim pieces  (based on specific patterns) and packaging the cutouts to be sent to Sole Hope in Uganda .  Ultimately, the pieces will be sewn together to make shoes for children  in need. Men and women in Uganda receive employment as shoe tailors, children receive shoes to protect their feet from disease and infection, and our girls get to organize the denim donation and begin the process.  What a great cause!  We have a donation box in our front entrance...so please send in your unwanted jeans to CFE to support our GOTR Team!

Upcoming Events:

SAVE THE DATES!  The spring season and final months of our school year always mean a busy schedule of events.  For your planning purposes, please be aware of the events and dates below.  Final times and details will be communicated via e-mail, Facebook, and paper flyer.

Our PTO needs your help! Many PTO positions remain open for next school year.  Our Fall Festival and Art Show for example will both have leadership vacancies following this school year. Organizing and facilitating a major PTO event may seem like a great challenge.  Often parent volunteers who oversee these events work collaboratively as a team, so tasks are distributed and the event is supported on many levels.   Please consider getting involved in some of the great traditions here at CFE!  Without parent involvement and volunteers, we wouldn't be the school that we are today.  If you are interested in supporting and serving on the PTO, please e-mail Heather Marshall and Vivian Lee, PTO Co-Presidents with your interests.

As always thanks for your support!

Mr. Shawn Dutkiewicz

UHS After Prom"! The Community Walk-Thru is May 14th from 6:30-8:30pm.  Please come out and show your support!

The After Prom Committee is excited to reveal this year's After Prom theme at Unionville High School. Like many years before, parents and volunteers have been hard at work transforming the high school!! It is their goal to keep the students and community safe after prom. This event offers students a memorable opportunity to join friends in a secure & fun environment while providing activities, food and surprises. The event takes place "After Prom" on May 14th from 11pm to 5am.

Once again, to entice students to attend, Scott Honda of West Chester, PA, is generously donating a used car to one lucky student that registers and attends the After Prom event… and what student would pass up the chance to win a free car?

To follow the excitement, check them out on Twitter at UHSAP2016 (@UHSAP2016) and Facebook at UHS- AFTER PROM 2016.

Remember, the Community Walk-Thru is May 14th from 6:30-8:30pm. Please come see the high school transformed for this signature event! Donations will be collected and are greatly appreciated!!

If you are a Unionville HS parent and want to help, it's not too late. We still need volunteers for set up, to work the night of the event and take down decorations afterwards.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

PSSA's are complete!  We wrapped up PSSA testing last week and we are thankful to move into the final weeks of our school year!  Many thanks to everyone for your support during the state testing period.  We are confident that our students tried their very best and we look forward to the results in mid summer.

Friendly Reminder: Parent Climate Survey - closes on Friday, May 6th (please provide feedback)

As part of our commitment to students, parents and staff the UCFSD administration and Board of Directors has approved a district goal to measure climate (or organizational health) in each of our schools. The Comprehensive School Climate Inventory (CSCI) is being given to students, parents and staff – so that we hear from all stakeholders. The survey is designed to assess perceptions of school life including safety, relationships, support for learning and overall environment. The survey is nationally normed and found to be both a reliable and valid assessment tool in measuring school climate.

The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Your feedback is important to help us assess our areas of strength and opportunities for growth as we understand stakeholder experiences at Chadds Ford.  All responses are anonymous – there are no names attached to the survey and all data will be reported in terms of the way groups of people respond to the survey.

The CSCI is an online survey and the window to complete the survey is Mon. April 25th - Fri. May 6th.

I thank you for taking the time to participate. Your input will help to inform our future planning initiatives to make CFES an even better place to teach and learn.  Should you have any questions about you or your child's participation, please contact me at sdutkiewicz@ucfsd.net.

Please use this link to access the survey: http://www.schoolclimate.net?l=e&t=p&v=4&c=1163041

As always, thank you for your support!
