Charger eNews - November 8, 2016

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Greetings Chargers!

HUGE THANKS to our PTO Board and all of the parents who came to last week's PTO meeting to support our grant proposals!  We are very excited about moving forward with our grants and greatly appreciate the tremendous support!   Our PTO is incredibly supportive of our school programming and helps to fund many of our special activities.  In case you are not aware, this year so far the PTO has funded a magician, a world champion jump roper, and soon, a highly engaging and very interactive program about the life of bees.  Last year, the PTO funded the visits from an author/illustrator, a magician/entertainer, the Chinese Acrobats, and several other program providers to enrich and balance our students' experience.  We cannot thank you enough for your support!

We had a blast at Friday's 3rd Grade Read-A-Thon!  Check out the pictures on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Chadds-Ford-Elementary-School-145264965551020/?ref=bookmarks). HUGE THANKS and KUDOS to Hoang Nguyen and Christine Condelles for their tremendous efforts planning and facilitating the event!  Special thanks also goes out to: Kara Hyman for all her guidance and moral support and for donating the wonderful raffle prize of the Kindle and Amazon gift card; Mr. Judd for setting up an awesome obstacle course; Mrs. Whitman, Mrs. DeNenno and Ms. Bova along with Ms. Yackel and Mrs. Carson for their enthusiastic support and starring Oompa Loompa roles; the custodial staff for assisting with the setup and breakdown; Hendrix Orthodontics for the amazing team shirts and bags; Carolyn Barr for her help with scheduling the rooms and Jeanine McClosky for helping with paperwork and logistics throughout the 4 weeks of reading; Vivian Fresco for being our photographer; Pocopson parents for sharing many of their decorations; our third grade parents for volunteering their time and help on Friday evening; and the students themselves for reading thousands and thousands of minutes and for their amazing participation in all of the weekly activities, especially the book gift! Great job everyone!

The Great Cookie Election was yesterday! Huge thanks to our parent volunteers (Anna Marcotte, Pam Tucker, Rhea Thomas, Kara Hyman, Frances Dolce, Kristen Goodman, Leigh Heister, Vivian Lee, Jeannette Kurkewicz, Martina Jones, and Christine, Boruk) who helped out!  Students received a voter's registration card, signed in at our poll location (aka our Music room), and voted in one of the actual voting stations that will be used for the real election on Tuesday.  We used a Google form survey to collect and calculate the votes.  On Wednesday, we will reveal the results on CFE-TV and all students will receive the winning cookie at lunch time.  Fun stuff!
Please consider nominating one our great teachers for the Citadel Heart of Learning Award! Please click here to show your love of our staff: https://www.citadelbanking.com/…/ci…/heart-of-learning-form/

Other FYI's...
    •    Fall Conference online scheduling was launched on October 19th.  An email was sent to all families and a paper letter was sent home as well.  Our numbers indicate that we still have families that have not scheduled a conference as of yet.  If you have not registered for your child's conference, please use the following link to access the schedules: https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Chadds_Ford_Elementary_School

    •    SAVE the Date!  As a result of our parent, student, and school personnel Climate Survey last year, we are bringing in the Chester County Crime Victims Center to teach our students about Internet safety and social media.  In addition to our students receiving training, we are hosting a district-wide Internet Safety Parent Night on December 7th at Hillendale Elementary starting at 6:30 pm.  The presentation will be provided by the Chester County Crime Victims Center.  For more information: http://ucfsd-community-news.blogspot.com/2016/10/internet-safety-presentation-for-parents.html

As always, thank you for your support!

CHARGER NEWS - JUNE 6, 2016

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

HUGE thanks to all our parent volunteers who assisted Field Day last week!  We were so fortunate to have beautiful weather and it turned out to be a great day! KUDOS to Mr. Judd and Mr. Rudisill and all of our staff who helped run stations to support this great annual event.  Thank you to our PTO for providing all of our students with a frozen treat to finish off the day!

As we roll into our final two weeks of school, please be aware that we are collecting new and used school supplies to donate to those in need.  If you'd like your child to donate their used supplies, please let them know and we will have boxes on hand to process materials for donation.  Many thanks for your generosity!

The end of a school year is usually exciting and fun, but also bittersweet for some of our students.  This may or may not be true for our 5th grade students who will be going to Patton next year.  Most of our 5th grade friends have been here for 6 years and it is always tough to see them leave CFE.  For that reason, we have a few things lined up to make their final weeks extra special. We will have a staff versus 5th grade kickball game on Tues. June 14th.  Last year, the staff narrowly pulled out a victory!  5th grade will have a breakfast and yearbook signing the final week of school and on the final day, June 15th at dismissal, we will have an all school CLAP OUT for them.  More details will be sent soon regarding the clap out!

As always, thank you for your support and enjoy the final weeks of our school year!

Best regards,

Shawn Dutkiewicz, CFES Principal

MESSAGES FROM THE PTO

ORDER YOUR SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR 2016/2017

The CFES PTO has contracted with the School Tool Box Company to provide your child's school supplies for next school year if you are interested. This is a great service to utilize as it saves time and is very convenient. No waiting in line or shopping around for what school supplies are needed. The teachers in each grade have determined their school supply lists for next year. The supply list is then forwarded to the School Tool Box Company. If you place an order now, your child's school supplies will be prepackaged and shipped directly to your home.  Click HERE for the order form.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Are you looking to donate old school supplies?

For the past ten years, the Longwood Rotary club (www.longwoodrotary.com) has provided free backpacks and school supplies to low-income children in the local community.  They believe that every child should start the school year with the supplies they need to be successful.   They provide age-appropriate supplies for each grade including: backpacks, pencils, paper, erasers, highlighters, folders, binders, glue, glue sticks, tissues, etc.

They have just launched a partnership with the Unionville Chadds Ford School District to increase the number of children they can support.  They are collecting used backpacks that your children may have outgrown or other backpacks you have that are no longer being used.  They will be placing bright blue donation bins as shown here in the lobbies of all the district schools.  They will also provide new white trash bags next to the bins for the last day of school when students will need something to bring home their work and other items.   These bins will also be available all summer long to collect donations.

Later this summer when you are shopping for 2016-2017 they are asking you to consider buying additional supplies that are on sale.  Who can resist the "loss leader" specials for 5 and 10 cents!  Buy extra supplies and help less fortunate kids get off to a great start in school.

If you have any questions about this community service project please contact Jordan Gushurst at jordan@gushurst.com.

Thank you for your support!

CHARGER eNEWS

June 2, 2016

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Greetings Chargers!

I hope that you enjoyed a very relaxing Memorial Day weekend!  The rain has seemed to given way to the heat!

We are down to just three weeks of school!  Unreal how fast time has flown!

We have some great end of year events coming up, starting with Field Day tomorrow, Thurs. June 2nd.  Tomorrow's weather looks good...with a high of 82 and mixed sun and clouds.  No doubt our students are excited for this annual event.  Please be sure to send your child to school with sneakers, athletic clothing, sunscreen, and a water bottle.  Our PTO has generously offered to purchase popsicles for our students following their events.  Huge thanks to the PTO!

On Monday, June 6th we will have our Annual Awards Ceremony where we will recognize Perfect Attendance, Good Citizenship, and new this year, Resilience. If your child will receive the Citizenship Award or the Resilience Award, your child's teacher will contact you to make you aware and invite you to the ceremony.   Due to the numerous Perfect Attendance Award recipients, we are not informing parents if their child will receive this award.  If you are unsure of your child's attendance, you are welcome to contact our office to check his/her record.

Also on Monday, June 6th, we will have our First in Math Celebration to recognize our students for their efforts this year and to see if we achieved our 1,000,000 Sticker Challenge as a school!  Exciting stuff!  Based on the number of stickers each student earned, they will receive a certificate to recognize their efforts.  Certainly there will be many other classroom and grade-specific end of year events and celebrations.

MESSAGES FROM THE PTO

We are still looking for volunteers for some of our PTO programs for next year!   If we do not find individuals to help with these programs we may NOT be able to offer/have them next year.    Some of these activities require planning/work before the start of the 2016/17 school year so we are listing them below:

STILL OPEN  for 2016-17:

  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROGRAM  The liaison secures teacher support, coordinates dates for the program, set up sign ups for the classes, assists     with the collection of payments, and communicates on behalf of the program.  This can all be done from home!!
  • THIRD GRADE READ A THON:    We still need a chair for this event which is scheduled for Nov 2016.  Oversees the selection of a theme and works with committee members to develop games, decorate the school and oversee the overall event.   (We have people interested in helping on the committees)
  • ART SHOW CHAIR:  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.  We need to find a co-chair for this event!  We need some new parents!!  A lot of our current volunteers will have children leaving the school shortly!   Planning begins this summer!
  • ART In ACTION LEAD:  Manages all aspects of the District Wide program, including coordinating parent volunteers for art appreciation presentations to each grade during art class.

All of these are great ways to get involved with the school!  Grab a friend and volunteer together! For more information please feel free to reach out to Kara Hyman or Dana Cellucci
