PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Greetings Parents!

HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who supported our 68th Annual Art Show and Sale this past weekend!  Special thanks and kudos to PTO Art Show Chairperson, Nicole Scull and her family for their tremendous planning and efforts!  HUGE THANKS to all of the fantastic parent, student, and staff volunteers who made the show another great success!  A huge thanks to the collective PTO for continuing to support an amazing annual tradition here at CFE!  Great job everyone!

This is just a friendly reminder that our PSSA assessment begins next Monday.  The testing does cause some schedule changes for even our K-2 friends and it is important that everyone is aware that things will be slightly different over the next two weeks.

Schedule:

    •    April 3rd - 6th (ELA Testing)

    •    April 24th - 26th (Math Testing)

    •    May 2nd - 3rd (Science Testing - Grade 4 only)

3rd - 5th grade Parents: We are extremely fortunate to be part of an amazingly supportive community and much of this goes without saying, however, during the testing window, we ask that you help ensure that your child gets plenty of rest and enjoys a healthy breakfast.  Please encourage your child to maintain a positive and healthy view of the tests.  We just want them to try their best and not to worry.  They are well prepared and ready to show what they know.

Also, in my previous PSSA informational letter, I included a letter from the PA Department of Education regarding the collection of electronic devices during the testing window.  Although electronic devices are not permitted in school, many of our students use them on the bus.  As long as they are in school bags and turned off during the day, we do not see it as a problem.  While we don't anticipate any issues regarding students being in possession of cell phones during our testing, I just want to remind you of the policy language and to reinforce that students are not permitted to be in possession of cell phones during testing.  If your child normally brings a cell phone in their backpack each day we will have to collect it each morning prior to the testing time as per Pennsylvania state guidelines.  Students will be asked to turn off their cell phone and turn it into their teacher.  They will receive it back after testing to keep in their school bag.  Thank you for your support during this annual testing period.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

As always, thank you for your support!

Best regards,

Shawn Dutkiewicz, CFE Principal

PTO NEWS AND NOTES

ART SHOW UPDATE - WHAT A FANTASTIC  Art Show!! Thank you to everyone who donated time, money, desserts, etc. The event was a huge success, preliminary numbers are showing that we had a very lucrative event (more details will be published in upcoming weeks). This show would not be a success without the dedication and efforts of our parent volunteers especially the following people: Nichole and Nick Schull, Betty Kucharczuk, Kara Hyman, Frances Galvin, Renee Carroll, Sue Alivio, Tanya Cranmer, and Lauren McLaughlin. Thank You All!!

As we approach the end of the school year we are sending out an urgent request. Please consider supporting the Chadds Ford Elementary PTO by volunteering to be our Treasurer for the 2017/2018 school year. The treasurer is an integral part of our team and we still do not have someone to assume this role. Contact Dana Cellucci (danacellucci_@hotmail.com) or Kara Hyman (karaphyman@gmail.com) with any questions.

There is no PTO meeting in April because of PSSA testing. Our final PTO meeting will be held on May 3rd at 9:15am.

SPRING ESSENTIALS FOR MITCHELL - Last Days To Donate!!!

Our spring collection drive supports basic but unmet needs at our sister school, Mitchell Elementary in southwest Philadelphia.  As many of us have learned the hard way, flu season is here, and Mitchell has asked for our help in providing the following much-needed items for its student body and teachers:

  • Tissue Boxes
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Paper Towel Rolls
  • Deodorant
  • Bookbags (always in short supply)

Mitchell serves a K-8 student body made up entirely of children from households below the poverty line, with many children struggling with permanent or transitional homelessness. The school has been incredibly appreciative of all of the support from CFES this year.

A box for donations will be in the CFE lobby through Friday, March 31st.  Thank you Charger families!
