Charger eNews - April 4, 2017
As you may know, Mrs. Carolyn Barr has fully transitioned into her new Office Manager position at Unionville High School. We will have some new faces in our office to assist Mrs. McCloskey over the next several weeks. Following the April School Board Meeting, I will have more information to share regarding our office personnel. Stay tuned!
We begun PSSA testing this week. Our 3rd-5th grade students will test on Monday through Thursday this week as part of the English Language Arts (ELA) PSSA. The PSSA is not restricted by time, but generally students take between 90-120 minutes each day. The adapted schedule has resulted in our first and second grade students having their special during the morning rather than the afternoon. So, our elementary world is a bit turned upside down this week!
In other news, we received a great letter of appreciation from the American Heart Association last week. Thanks to the generous contributions of CFE families and friends, we collected a total of $7,574.85 for the AHA!!! The letter included the following message, "On behalf of the American Heart Association and the millions of Americans we serve, thank you very much for your school's donation of $7,574.85. Families and schools are critical links in providing the foundation for cardiovascular wellness in our country. By holding this event at your school each year, you raise awareness about heart-healthy living. And you help us fund more lifesaving scientific research and critically needed education efforts. Thank you." A HUGE thanks to our P.E. teachers, Mr. Judd and Miss Marsh and the parent volunteers who helped support our CFE Jump Rope For Heart event and once again, THANK YOU for your contributions!
The long-awaited SPRING BREAK is next week! School will be closed from Monday, April 10th through Friday, April 14th. Our first day back is Monday, April 17th. Enjoy the extra time at home with your children!
What to do with a week at home? Why not encourage your child to write and illustrate their own book? The National Youth Foundation is sponsoring a great contest! They are working with Robert Covington of the Philadelphia Sixers and Jordan Hicks of the Philadelphia Eagles to launch the Student Book Scholars contest (students K-8). Under the supervision of a teacher/parent/project coordinator, students in the Greater Philadelphia area are invited to work in teams of 3 to 10 to write, edit and illustrate their own books! Mr. Covington and Mr. Hicks will select the overall two winning teams! The creative process of working in teams helps provide a natural environment to practice editing, teamwork and communication skills necessary for future success. The winners and the volunteer coordinator will receive cool prizes and both winning books will be published and distributed to local libraries! PTO NEWS AND NOTES
Hello Parents! Please note that we will not be having our April PTO meeting. The next and final PTO meeting will be held on Wednesday May 3rd at 9:15am. We have a lot to get done at our final meeting so please join us!
Unfortunately, we have not had any interest in our Treasurer position for the 2017/2018 school year. We are pleading with parents - please consider volunteering for this critical role. The PTO will be very limited in what we can do if we can not find someone to take this very important position. Contact Kara Hyman (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Dana Cellucci (email@example.com) with questions/interest.
Lastly, the PTO wishes all of our family and staff a happy spring break. Please enjoy your time off!
Art in Action Update
A huge thank you to the parent volunteers who made this year's Art in Action program a success! Frances Galvin, Jeannette Kurkewicz, Jessica Lang, Susan Clough-O'Rourke, and Rhea Thomas introduced all CFES students to a number of Impressionist artists and led discussions about their paintings. This is a program that the students enjoy each year and we are truly thankful for their dedication and support. Thanks again for a great week!
