PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Greetings Chargers!

I want to thank everyone who was able to participate in last week's Spring Open House.  I hope that you enjoyed seeing your child's work in their classroom and the beautiful art work in our hallways.  I also hope that you had a chance to engage in some of the Makerspace activities and STEM projects in our gymnasium.  

We are looking forward to this Friday's 68th Annual May Fair event!  We are hoping for nice weather and are preparing for a great event.  Below are some friendly reminders.   

68th Annual May Fair 2017:

  • Each grade will perform a song. 3rd Graders perform the Traditional May Pole Dance and Parachute Party
  • The performances begin at 2:00 pm on the playground behind the school. Please DO NOT enter the front doors of the school.  Walk around the back of the school.  A space will be provided for parents. 
  • Please bring your own lawn chairs!  Chairs will be limited so please bring one of your own. 
  • Students should wear their CFE Spirit Wear to school on this day.  Since we will be outside, sunscreen is also recommended for all students!                                                                                                                                               
  • Students will travel home on the buses.  If you plan to attend the event and would like to take your child home with you, a parent or guardian will need to sign the student out in his or her classroom.  A note is not necessary, but we do ask that only one parent enter the school to minimize the number of adults in the building.  This year we are working to manage the traffic at the conclusion of the fair to make the dismissal process more efficient.

We have officially reached 20 school days remaining!  The final few weeks will be full of special events, class trips, and end-of-year celebrations.  Next Thursday, May 25th is our Spring 4th-5th Grade Concert and parents are welcome to attend at 1:45 pm.  The concert will be LIVE STREAMED on our You Tube Channel.  A reminder email and link will be sent out next week.   Our students are busy preparing and practicing for their final performance of the year!  We hope you can attend or watch from home!

PTO NEWS AND NOTES

We have had a great 2016/2017 and we are very thankful for all of our parents that have been involved with the PTO.  We have filled many of our chairs/committees for next year (2017/2018) but we still need have a few to fill!  The following positions are still available.  

PTO Vice -President:    The Vice-Presidents assist the Presidents and are responsible for the recruitment or nomination of candidates for the PTO Executive Board members for that year.                          

Typically Vice-Presidents move to the President's position after his or her term expires.  We currently have one VP for next year and are looking for another!!!EndFragment

Art Show Co-Chair: We have one chair and we need another plus many committe chairs!!!  Our PTO's primary source of revenue, the art show and sale features work from local and regional artists.                      30% of sales goes to the PTO.  Chairs help oversee all committee and volunteers.  This event requires many volunteers and committee chairs to promote the event, solicit food and raffle donations, coordinate with artists, print programs, decorate the school, and support the actual event.

Hospitality:We need committee members to help our hospitality chair with teacher appreciation week and new student events    

Talent Show Chairs:    Co-chairs work together to organize volunteers, and coordinate every part of this show which will be run in Jan/Feb.  Co-chairs run tryouts, practices and all aspects of the actual event.

4th Grade Event: Work with parents from other schools to plan this district wide party held in tentatively in March.

Square One Art: Manages all aspects of this fall activity, including coordinating with CFES's Art teacher, collecting student orders, and overseeing distribution of finished items.

Curriculum Council:    Curriculum Council is a group of parents, teachers and administrative staff that meets about 4 times per year to review the curriculum for the district.

Focus Rep:Serves as the CFES representative to Family Outreach Committee of the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District, a District-wide, parent network committee to promote healthy choices and behaviors for all youth in our school district though information and education.  

UCF Education Rep:     Serves as the CFES representative to the UCEF (Unionville-Chadds Ford Educational Foundation) a non-profit, charitable organization that raises and appropriates money for     educational projects within the District

Assembly Coordinator:  Work with the school to select and coordinate assemblies

Fifth Grade Leave Behind:     Work with principal and the students to create a lasting memory to leave in the school.

We also have our PTO happy hour coming up next Thursday, May 25th at 6:30 at Brandywine Prime.  Come out to celebrate a great 2016/2017 school year!

Mark your calendars! There will be a happy hour on Thursday May 25th 2017 at Brandywine Prime starting at 6:30pm. Come meet your CFE friends for a night of enjoyment!


MITCHELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SUPPLY COLLECTION:

Chadds Ford Elementary is accepting donations of school supplies for our sister school, Mitchell Elementary, through the last day of school.  Please consider donating any of the following gently used/unused items:

Pencils

Crayons

Lined Paper

Construction Paper

Glue Sticks

Colored Pencils

Marble Notebooks

Scissors

Book bags (always in short supply)

Mitchell serves a K-8 student body made up entirely of children from households below the poverty line, with many children struggling with permanent or transitional homelessness. The school has been incredibly appreciative of all of the support from CFES this year.

COMMUNITY NEWS

FIRST Robotics League

The Flaming Phoenix FTC robotics team from Unionville High School will be hosting an information session about FIRST robotics including FIRST Junior Lego League, FIRST Lego League (FLL), and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) on Wednesday May 24th from 6:30 to 8:00pm in the Hillendale Elementary School LGI.  

These programs provide excellent STEM opportunities for students from Kindergarten through Seniors in High School.  We will be discussing the programs and starting to form teams for next year.  This information session is intended for both students and parents.  Note that this program is 100% parent driven, so if you want to guarantee your child is involved, come to the meeting to find out more about how to start a team.
